3) Create a new layer above your 'Background' layer. When the 'New Layer' dialog opens name it 'Repairs'. THIS is the layer you will be using the Photoshop Spot Healing Brush with, sampling from the 'Background' layer below but generating a pixel-fix on the 'Repairs' layer so that you do not physically change your original, master layer.
